Eye of Interest

Here’s a question for the ages:

Can you separate skill from worldview?

If the beauty and mystery you recognize are only in flowers, cats, and clouds, that’s what you’ll point your camera at. If your interest and infatuation lie in people and daily life, that’s where you will aim your camera. I remember, when I first got my spectacles, I suddenly started to recognize people around me with bad sight.

In other terms:
You can create art only as interesting and compelling as your inner life is. Cause that is what you will going to recognize first — inner life reflected in the world around.

That, of course, is not entirely true. However, I have found it to be accurate most of the time. You can possess a skill, but without a mature, deep, and inquisitive perspective on the world, your work will be mediocre. Full stop.

Now linger on that thought a little bit.

What is your view on the world?
