Meditation on Portrait Photography
Here I am, at your door. I knock gently; I knock violently.
I knock sincerely on your door. Does sincerity scare you?
What you hear is my voice calling for you to come out.
What you see is a reflection of you in the waveless surface of my loving heart.
I love not just you; I love not just me. I love all light that comes through an open heart, and I love all darkness it illuminates.
Things reflected may appear closer than they actually are.
And things reflected may appear further than they actually are.
In fact, nobody knows how far or how near we are. So let’s find out together.
See, I am helpless as you are. The difference is — I am not afraid to be.
See, I am as strong as you are. The difference is — I am not afraid to be.
All we want is to be seeing. I want to be seen through you.
And you — want to be seen through me.
The camera is just an excuse to communicate with hearts.
How do you overcome fear? You don’t. You just look at it.
How do you get rid of your own shadow? You don’t.
You just admit its existence.
How do you express yourself sincerely, you ask?
How do you learn to swim? There is nothing…
