The question of what is more critical — means or ends exists for some time now. And it seems to me that in photography community ends/results rules over means. It is understandable, since eventually, we talk about a photograph — that is a result of many processes.

So I think it is right to talk and concentrate on results to an extent, especially when we look at it through the commercial filter. But when we talk about growth as a photographer and achieving success as a creator/artist — it becomes more complicated.

I saw a youtube video in which one youtuber/photographer conveys in so many words that it does not matter how — it is the results that matter, thus why should we care about the process? This video inspired me to write this piece, and I hope it will be educational and helpful to some.

I believe that the greatest mistake one can make — is to try to overcome one’s lack of progress with technical methods in photography. An amateur and professional can have the same equipment and even light set up yet have different results. So its in the process that lies difference.
