…n work, sometimes picking up slides from a lab, examining them there, and tossing out most of them. The arrival of digital media changed that a lot, but I am still a tough editor, and never regretted that. As to my Masters, I was once asked on a radio program who they were. The host expected Adams, Weston et al. I said mostly Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart. Shakespeare, Dickens, Vermeer, Magritte, Gaudi, and several photographers.
From early on in my photographic career I learned to be unrelentingly critical about my own work…

Yes, I absolutely agree that sometimes Masters may be from different craft. In fact I find that studying Masters of different craft aomwtimws helps more than just studying photographers.
